When asked to explaining the two techniques of Myofascial Release and CranioSacral Therapy, it has often proven to be difficult. Quite honestly I usually ask someone to sit in front of me and just let me put my hands on their shoulders. It is then that they understand and begin to feel the soft tissue start to relax.
Obviously I can’t do that over a website so, I will do my best with words.
Understanding fascia and what it does for us is important. It is literally the glue that holds us together. Fascia supports and connects the bones, muscles and inner organs of the body. It is a 3 dimensional web that spreads throughout the body from head to toe without interruption. There is a fascial component to every cell in our body. In other words, it supports and connects everything in our body.
Injury, infection, inflammation, structural imbalance, will often bind the fascial web. The result is pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, bony structures and even organs.
In it’s normal state, fascia is relaxed and has the ability to move and stretch without restriction. With injury and inflammation, fascia becomes very tight. It is doing it’s original job by protecting and holding us together. Unfortunately it doesn’t always know when to quite tightening. It now is a source of tension for the rest of the body.
It is often described as a “pulling, twisting or pressure” without any explanation as to why it started. It is both physically and emotionally induced. One not need to have ever had a physical injury or trauma to begin to experience fascial restrictions.
Myofascial Release is a safe and gentle hands on technique that is effective, and long-lasting. The holds are a sustained pressure into the myofascial restriction that eliminates pain, reduces strains and restores movement.
